Museo Nacional de Antropologia

Corporate Identity Redesign | Student Work

The National Museum of Anthropology is one of the biggest and most important museums in Mexico City which is why it is considered a National Treasure and a symbol of identity. It is the home of the iconic "Mayan Calendar" and many other symbols of the Pre-Columbian heritage. This is why I decided to give it a mark and a website that was up to the standards of the museum.

Even though it is an iconic museum, its current logo is hard to read and does not represent the museum's richness. Also, the website has no clear hierarchy, and the information architecture needs some updates. For this project, I decided to focus on the mark itself with stationery, promotional pieces, package design, indoor signage, outdoor advertising, website, and social media.

Outside of the museum, they exhibit the monolith of Tlaloc (the god of the rain).
There is a background story of the monolith and its transportation from the place it was found which inspired me to explore incorporating the monolith in the logo. The monolith is among the five biggest monoliths in the world, and it is placed at the entrance of the museum which is why I felt it was appropriate to take this direction.

I also explored other routes like embracing some of the elements found throughout the architecture of the museum, however, the monolith approach was the most iconic one.
